We returned back on Monday from our 10 day Udaipur trip. The highlight of the trip was Kabir's mundan ceremony in our ancestral village of Narlai. Kabir was a good sport and patiently allowed the barber to shave his head. The ceremony was held in the same temple where Saurabh, his father and other ancestors have traditionally had their mundan ceremony performed.
Anurag, who was next in line after Kabir, threw such a fit after seeing his brother's 'haircut' that his mundan had to be stopped soon after it had started. The result was that he had a terribly uneven hairdo until we visited another barber in Mumbai to try to salvage the situation. He hasn't got his head completely shaved yet and I may just need to do that in his sleep very soon.
We celebrated dusserha by attending the lanka-dahan and ravan-dahan in Udaipur city. It was a well organised event and the kids enjoyed the fireworks and the burning down of the effigies of Ravan, Kumbhakaran and Meghnad.
A visit to the Lok Kala Mandal was much enjoyed by the kids. The puppet show and the folk dances were spectacular and the boys were riveted and kept asking for more.
The mandatory trip to the Fatehsagar lake was made to enjoy the kulhad-coffee. Also did our regular short hike to the river next to dadisa's house passing through corn and jawar crops and observing many birds (red wattled lapwing, green bee-eater, red vented bulbuls).
The kids enjoyed playing in dadisa's huge house. Lunch was had in the front yard watching herds of goats pass by. Evening milk/snacks were had sitting on the jhoola in the backyard. And we all got spoilt with delicious meals and 2 hours of afternoon nap everyday.
Photos coming up in the following posts.
